Nearly ripe plums

Made an early visit to the allotment this morning to do a bit of watering as I failed to do it last night. We planted a Victoria plum tree a few years ago and it fares differently every year. This year there are lots of fruit but they are not yet ripe enough to pick and eat. However every day some fall off which is annoying.
As our allotments have no piped water, they just have old fashioned hand pumps from when the allotments were first laid out in 1920, the hose pipe ban will not affect us like most of the council run allotments round the country. However there is not unlimited water for each pump and I do remember a few years ago when some ran dry. We don’t water many things unless they look really droopy so we won’t get the same amount of veg as in previous years.

Looking back at photos from the last two years I notice that most of my garden plants are  much further forward this year and some will be over at least a month earlier eg hydrangeas. However it is good that my trailing geraniums on our balcony  have flowered earlier as they now look very good and hopefully will continue to do so until end of September.

Hotter again today so think we will need to put the aircon on when the family arrive for ‘tea’ . Too hot to eat in the garden.
