What Lurks Below

Electrician arrived today to start on the rewiring on the lounge & dining room.  His son / apprentice has the short straw of going down the trap in the floor and dealing with the messy half of the job.

At various times he emerged with assorted objects including a port / sherry bottle which looks quite old, a bucket, and various other oddments including a newspaper from 1965.

1965 aligns with when the house was a boys' home under the auspices of The Birmingham Society in Aid of Nervous Children.  That's a bit of a surprise as I would have expected such finds from the period afterwards - when it was being rebuilt...
