Water Sports

Our last morning in Somerset before the hot trek home.

The harbour at Porlock Weir is drained of water at low tide and the area is fairly quiet for much of the day.  However, at around high tide, the car park fills up and families and individuals suddenly appear with canoes, kayaks and paddle boards and the water becomes a hive of activity.  Some of the moored yachts set sail into the Bristol Channel, and the trip boat may set off if there are interested customers.

Clearly locals and visitors keep an eye on the tide tables to make sure that they benefit from the deep water in the harbour  Youngsters even dive or jump from the quayside into the water (a little hazardous when the tide is on the way out!).

High tide this morning at 8.08 am may have been a little early for families, but there was still a noticeable buzz on the water, which we watched from our harbourside breakfast table.

I know we are desperate for rain, but this fine weather has made our week here very enjoyable, even if we restricted our walking because of the heat.

I have back-blipped yesterday's journal entry which I didn't have time to post yesterday.
