Early Autumn?

Walking up onto the army ranges today one could believe we were deep into the  Autumn season.  Yet no, this is the result of a massive wildfire which has destroyed large areas of the ranges, a precious low heathland area home to rare and threatened species including a herd of 200 red deer.  Even today, over a month since the fire first broke out, there are signs that the ranges are still burning.

This end of the range doesn't appear as badly damaged as some areas, but Surrey Wildlife Trust, who manage the land on behalf of the MOD, estimate it could take up to a decade to recover and in the meantime have launched an appeal to raise £40k to help replace fences and support the deer herd by supplementary feeding.
