Damsons

It was still very hot this morning but by mid-afternoon, when the spaniel and I were on top of the Downs, it was a good six degrees lower than yesterday. Still no rain though. My bed of Cosmos has succumbed to powdery mildew which I've sprayed with some bicarbonate of soda solution. The sweet peas have been grubbed up this morning, the flowers finished over a week ago but the plants were too desiccated to make good seed. The damsons are nearly ready to harvest although I think the crop will be considerably smaller than last year.
