Hamlet

Much brighter morning, and it developed into a rather lovely sunny but not too hot day with no breeze.
Some general email and web stuff as well as laundry whilst S packed then we pottered down to City Cafe for rather good bacon and mushroom rolls for breakfast and chatted about kids and housing choices. Arrived at the station earlier than we’d thought, and the waiting room was busy with lots of people travelling today to avoid the strikes tomorrow and Saturday. Left S there and I came home to do a bit of cleaning before VickyG arrived. We chatted, in our usual wide ranging way and continued over a snack lunch at Summerhall before she joined a zoom call and I got back to searching for flights. This will take some planning but not getting any nearer an itinerary or decisions from K.
Gave up after a while and read a chunk of Hex by Jenny Fagan in preparation for a book festival event tomorrow. Once VickyG had finished I walked down to meet SP and we walked down to Stockbridge for a quick Italian supper and a lot of chat and gossip, then to see Ian McKellen in Hamlet. It was odd. He was the only one who spoke, giving a kind of greatest hits of the play (to be or not to be etc), whilst a group of dancers interpreted the rest of the story, including one of them representing the young Hamlet who was dressed the same as McKellen and stood with him when he wasn’t dancing. Whilst they were good dancers the choreography was very literal and simplistic…..not an artistic success I don’t think but good to see McKellen in the flesh and see what I thought following the wildly contrasting reviews that have been published.
We chatted as we walked back…I dropped her at the cathedral and then caught a bus home. Quick catch up with A then bed….
