Sturt Desert Pea

Well we didn’t expect that!  At one stage on the drive to Port Hedland today we started to see these bright flashes of red on the side of the road in the red dirt.  I had no idea that the Sturt Desert Pea grew in Western Australia.  I’ve always though that it was only seen in South Australia.  We stopped MiniMo at a very healthy looking patch and spent quite a lot of time photographing them.  They really are quite something and that was one of the major highlights of the day for me today.  We had a long drive from Onslow to Port Hedland and what an eye opener this place is.  It’s all about the mining and there is unbelievable infrastructure like no other town I’ve ever visited.   We didn’t quite have enough sunlight to head on to the spot we had planned to camp so we’re on the foreshore at Port Hedland tonight and saw an magnificent sunset. (See extra)  Tomorrow we will head to Broome and hopefully arrive in time to see the sun set over Cable Beach.  I’ve seen the spectacle before and it’s definitely going to be a highlight for us.
