Cumberland Infirmary.
Well, that was a large part/entrance when Clickychick did her radiography training there forty odd years ago. Now the entrance is much larger and more modern, round to the left of the shot. Kanyl had his regular check-up in Carlisle so we went up with him. Being short of a blip I had a wander round outside.
The old entrance caught my eye. They certainly don't build like that anymore. I can't help but feel there is little of modern buildings that will a) survive for any great length of time and b) is worth preserving. With regard to longevity, I taught in a school which was opened in 1962 and extended in 69/70. By the time I left in 08 much of it was in need of serious repair.
Interestingly the hospital is still called Cumberland Infirmary despite being in Cumbria. However, from April it will once again be in Cumberland, while we in Penrith who were in Cumberland will suddenly become part of Westmorland and Furness. Appleby changed its name to Appleby in Westmorland when Westmorland ceased to exist. So from April, it will be Appleby in Westmorland, Westmorland, and Furness on addresses.
