Bypassed

All day, we waited in hope for the promised rain. For hours, we heard distant thunder, rolling along the coast. Eventually, drops fell... for two minutes. Not even enough to wash the dust off the leaves. The wind was forecast to come from the north, which should have brought us a few hours steady rain, but had shifted further to the east, and as so often, the rainclouds separated as they reached the North Downs, some travelling along the south coast while others bypassed us to the north. There is no prospect of more rain any time soon.
