Tarn Hows

Thursday 11 August
Falling further behind again!
We enjoyed a wonderful day out today with Peter and Judy. We headed up to Windermere and rather than taking the main road up the east side of the lake, we drove up the west side of the lake, a narrower, windy road affording some lovely views over the lake (see extra). At one point we had a bit of a hold-up as a coach met a truck, and we almost ended up with a gridlock situation. We continued on up to Tarn Hows, and went for a beautiful walk around the lake. We were then looking for somewhere to eat, and we first tried nearby Coniston, but that was too busy we couldn’t find anywhere to park, so we continued onto Hawkshead, where there is a good sized car park, and it’s a quieter town. Peter and Judy remembered a deli that made sandwiches to order, so we sat and enjoyed them outside in the sunshine. While we were sitting there, a couple of sheep came wandering down the street! We had a little wander round the village and Roger and I went up to the church, where we found the two roaming sheep munching away on the grass! I had a look in a couple of shops, but refrained from buying anything.
We then took the main road back to our hotel and again enjoyed a cup of tea sitting on the balcony.
