The Netherlands

Winsford sent us this beautiful shot taken in the Netherlands for our album of places mentioned in Lorna Lloyd's Diary of the war. Thank you Winsford!

Lorna writes about the German invasion of the Netherlands in 1940 in her diary entry of May 15th of that year. One of our favourite quotations from the entire diary is found in the same entry:

'I shall bury this diary, so deep that one day, in a saner world someone may find it and know that the last legions of civilisation meant not domination but good, even though their hands were feeble and their foresight all too dim.'

If you'd like to hear these words, and the rest of this diary entry, it features in Episode 6 of our podcast series of the Diary of the war in which Lorna's great-great niece Bethany Ray plays the part of her great-great aunt..

If you would like to contribute a picture to our album, the full list of locations can be found here. They are also featured on our interactive map. Please send your photograph(s) to Hazel at h.hall@napier.ac.uk. Thank you!
