Sgwarnog: In the Field

Gold

Goldfinches are one of the more reliable birds to spot around the edge of the moor, with thistle heads being a big attraction. This was one of a small group at Moorside.

Just a few butterflies about today, in what were overcast but warm conditions. The patch of meadow at the bottom of Low Springs pastures is covered in Devil’s-bit scabious at the moment (extra). I think the slope must be just too severe for the cows to graze. Common Blue, Wall, Red Admiral, Speckled Wood and Meadow Brown butterflies were all present at this spot.
