Witches Butter …

….. tremella mesenterica.
I found another fungi today, walking with a friend on the Lower Shotover river track.

iNaturalist has this to say about it -
Description
Small, yellow, irregularly lobed, gelatinous masses. Grows on dead deciduous wood. Year-round. Fruiting body irregularly lobed, brainlike; sulfur yellow to pale yellow; texture gelatinous.

I’m intrigued by the name! You can just imagine someone dreaming it up. The one I found was quite long, maybe 15cm, but only 2-3cm high. Long and low.
It’s so bright in colour it’s almost fluorescent. I spotted it from quite a long way away.

It was a beautifully warm day, ideal for going out walking.
