Rapness Mill

Today we did a favourite walk - Castle o Burrian and the Bay of Tafts. There are many good things to see on this walk and they have all, except the derelict (thank you Marlieske) Rapness Mill, been blipped by me before:

Castle o Burrian
Sanger Mill
Bay of Tafts (exactly a year ago)

Rapness Mill is an 18th century grain mill. It is on the 'Buildings at Risk' register. It's at the start of a great walk and we didn't see another soul the whole way. Plenty of birds, a solitary seal, many cows and a few sheep. Delighted also to see lots of wild flowers still blooming - devil's bit scabious, sea pinks (nearly finished), purple heather, vetch, sea rocket, sow thistle.

Thanks so much for all good wishes for yesterday. We did indeed enjoy a glass of fizz in the hot tub watching the tide come up. Then from the window of the cottage we watched some youngsters in wet suits on a paddle board and some boats coming and going.

Today is my birthday so the celebrations continue. We're off to the Pierowall Hotel this evening to have a meal. It is a completely unpretentious place with seafood as fresh as can be.  Before then I'll be taking another stroll out to see what I can add to my beachcombing collection.
