King Explorer

Today's the day ...................... to abandon ship 

It was all very quiet down in the harbour at Kirkcudbright this afternoon.  There were a couple of scallop dredgers tied up at the quayside, including this one the King Explorer - but no sign of life on board.

The ferro-concrete bridge, upstream of the boat, carries the A755 road over the River Dee.  It was built in 1926 and replaced a more graceful iron swing bridge constructed in 1868.

Before then the river was crossed by a ferry .....................
