Beneath This Mask

Today's the day ..................... to indulge

We had to take the car today for its annual service and MOT at the garage in Dumfries.  As this apparently takes pretty much a whole day (?!), we had the use of a courtesy car for the duration - and lots of time to explore the city.

We started off with a visit to the Gracefield Arts Centre where there was an exhibition of the work of the French photographer Claude Cahun (1894-1954) entitled 'Beneath This Mask'.  She was famous for her ambiguous photographic portraits.  And although she remained largely unknown during her own lifetime, she was very much ahead of her time - anticipating the work of contemporary artists such as Cindy Sherman and Trish Morrissey.

There was a photographic booth where you could get dressed up and try to recreate some of photographic portraits you had just seen.  We had plenty of time on our hands to indulge ourselves - and the above is the result ......................! .
