Family All In One Place

Today was ‘Recovery Day’ for the wedding guests over at the beautiful Villa Catalina. We woke up having had the best night sleep for both of us - we switched places so L could have the fan blowing on her instead of me blocking the airflow and we were both much more comfortable. Breakfast was the campsites delicious still warm baguette with an omelette made in the ridgemonkey pan and coffee of course!
We then had to use the somewhat temperamental taxi service - when I finally got through they promised me 30 to 40 minutes - after an hour I began calling again but could not get anyone to answer the phone. 35 attempts later they finally sent someone and we arrived nearly 2 hours after the noon start to the event. It all worked out in the end as the pizzas were just being delivered and we were able to help carry them round to the group who were gathered behind the villa. Things really looked up when we were able to plunge into the cool swimming pool and relax with a beer and just have relaxed conversations with various members of the ‘friends of the bride and groom’. It has been a very beautiful wedding, though we both remarked on how it was only possible because virtually all their friends are upwardly mobile fairly well off professionals in their late 20’s and could afford the expense of travelling half way across the world to celebrate the wedding. Having said that, they were a very friendly and interesting bunch who made us feel much less outsiders than I think often happens to uncles and Aunties who no one knows at weddings predominantly attended by friends of the participants. The photo is a rare gathering of both my sisters, their better halves, my sister Nicky’s daughter and son with their partners and Ruth (Alison’s daughter) and her now husband Kieran. This group has never been all together in one place before.
Finished the night with a good dinner at the campsite restaurant with a very good bottle of Rioja and now a much earlier night before we begin a couple of days enjoying the place we are in without any ‘events’ to go to.
