History in the making

The funeral cortège was due to pass very close to one of my friend’s house so we all met there this morning and before we walked out onto the main road, we watched the cortège travel through the Aberdeen countryside. It was very moving to watch the crowds reactions to seeing such a momentous occasion unfolding before them.

We managed to find a spot on a slight slope and I took a shot of the hearse as it passed by us. It was quite emotional to think that the Queen was in front of us but no longer communicative. I did wonder whether I should post the picture but it felt like history in the making.

After a cup of coffee and watching the coverage until the cortège pulled into Brechin Castle for a rest stop, we headed up to Old Aberdeen for a nostalgic walk around and some photo opportunities. We also dropped into the St Machar bar for a bite of lunch (top tip - if you love fish fingers order them as your portion is 8!). It hasn’t changed much in the intervening years. Interesting moment when one of the patrons came over to say that I reminded him of ‘that woman off the tv’. We eventually worked out he meant Janet Street Porter.!!

I headed to my long time friend (and bridesmaid) Linda’s house just after 5 and we had a great evening catching up over a few glasses of wine and a delicious chicken bhuna. We laughed, we talked, we danced in the kitchen, we danced in the garden in the rain and even tried to play swingball before calling it a night around 11.
