Life through the lens...

Balwest Methodist Chapel.

On a glorious morning we started out with a walk to the top of Tregonning Hill.
The extra collage shows the marvellous view of Mounts Bay.
The abandoned quarry where the first China clay deposits were discovered in 1746 by William Cookworthy.
The lovely double bench. Placed here in memory of Maisie Beth Keverne who died before her 1st birthday from Mitochondrial disease.
Germoe War Memorial built on top of the great fort of Castle Pencaire . Today a large heap of stones, but originally a Celtic Stronghold from around 250 BC.
The Platinum Jubilee Stone, with the inscription:
‘ This Stone was placed here by Germoe Parish Council to commemorate the dedicated service Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has shown for 70 years’.

We had parked in the car park adjacent to Balwest Chapel, and noticed it was open, so stopped to look in.
They were getting ready for a wedding which was being need thus afternoon.
The reason for my interest is because my father, being a local preacher, used to preach here back in the 1970s.
I couldn’t believe that the gentleman we spoke to remembered my mum and dad, and heard him preach here when he was in his early 20s.
He even remembered one of his sermons about Frances Ridley Havergal who wrote some of the Methodist hymns. Says it was so different from most of the sermons he had to listen to.
I got a lump in my throat as I thought how pleased my dad would have been to hear this.

So you see why this photo had to be my Blip today.
It has fairly recently been renovated, and it looked beautiful. Especially with the flowers for the wedding.

The afternoon we took the chairs down onto Perranuthnoe beach were we spent three enjoyable hours.

There was a Spearfishing competition being held, and just before we left several men suddenly appeared walking out of the sea. One dragging some fish! They had been out at sea diving for several hours.See extra.

We were also fascinated by a man on a hydrofoil surf board. Never seen this before. As there weren’t many waves he was making his way along with a pumping action. Certainly seemed hard work.
Had a chat with him, and he let me take a photo. Another extra.

What a fabulous day, and the sun has shone almost none stop!
