A Day In The Life

Boo!

Newt is excited that Fall is almost here. Cooler temperatures plus lots of shady spaces makes for a happier kitty. She was once feral abandoned as a kitten by a house up the hill; she had a sibling too. Her horrible family moved out in late Fall leaving them both outside to fend for themselves. They found refuge under an old barn across the street from our house. Her sibling didn’t survive the first winter. I assume this because I witnessed a fox chasing a young tiger cat down a steep hill through freshly fallen snow. Newt was running for her life too but the fox chose the other. I stood at the end of our driveway in my pajamas banging a pot with a spoon. It was the best I could come up with to try to scare the red fox away. I like to think I saved Newt that day • Over the next couple of years we caught glimpses of her but she was now wild and afraid, but still a survivor. One late Autumn day she appeared on our doorstep, her way of letting us know she needed our help. Matted dirty fur made her lean body more visible. She was starving, thus began the daily feedings, but it took a couple of years before she trusted us enough to enter the inside of our house, her forever home. A longer story to tell one day but during those two long bitter cold winters MrsP sat outside every morning at 5am with Newt, feeding her, wrapping her up in a blanket like a burrito on her lap for warmth • Newt is a Warrior Kitty, The Queen of our household, truly one of a kind! • Happy Sunday to you :)
