Common Enchantments

First Day

The calendar says today is the first day of autumn.  I am so very glad that something says it since the weather thinks we are having summer with temperatures in the mid 90s today.   Good news is coming on Saturday when a much cooler forecast is predicted.   But I know that summer will probably have one last gasp before Autumn overrules it!    This one tree in my yard with its leaves turning red with many lying on the ground and the deck (sweeping them up every day...raking once a week!) seems to be a good indicator of what's to come.

Looking at Tiny Tuesday entries and will post the hearts on Friday.  So many interesting takes on the animal, vegetable, mineral prompt...and then there is fungi!

A poem for autumn.

Leaves by Elsie Bradley

How silently they tumble down
And come to rest upon the ground
To lay a carpet, rich and rare,
Beneath the trees without a care,
Content to sleep, their work well done,
Colors gleaming in the sun.
At other times, they wildly fly
Until they nearly reach the sky.
Twisting, turning through the air
Till all the trees stand stark and bare.
Exhausted, drop to earth below
To wait, like children, for the snow.
