Life's Little Moments

...Super cute!

No long walks today, no butterflies or exotic looking warblers and no moths either. But who needs that when you've got a chipmunk!! The cutest rodent on the planet, in my humble opinion. I'm almost certain that this is Scar, one of last summer's chippies. He is living in a burrow in the patio flower garden, right behind the hose enclosure. It's conveniently located near the deck where there are lots of things to interest a chipmunk - mainly edible things.

Here you see Scar trying to work out if it is possible to get a second peanut in his mouth. He hasn't master the fine art of cheeking the whole peanut ... yet. But the summer is early, and I've got confidence that he'll be a quick learner. Right after I snapped this, he dashed down into his burrow with his prize. I'm pretty sure I heard a tiny little "Yippee" coming from the ground...

I was actually going to blip a woodpecker today - one of the female downies showed up covered in what I believe is pollen. I have never seen anything quite like it. Even the blue jays were agast! My best guess is that the downy was foraging around in some of the tree buds which coated her in yellow pollen. Would have been a good blip, but I can't resist a chipmunk!

Hubs and I are off to NYC tomorrow. I've got my annual brain scan tomorrow - my date with the Tunnel of Terror. That's at 11:30 and then I see the surgeon at about 2 to get the results. I have to be sedated for the MRI, so hubs will be my escort and guardian! :) Hopefully I will be able to do a little street photography later in the afternoon once the drugs have worn off. I'm bringing the little Coolpix as I don't want to lug a big camera. And I'll definitely have some photo time Saturday morning before we meet up with friends for brunch.

Thanks very much for sending my butterfly fluttering onto the Spotlight page today - what fun!

Here's hoping you all have a great Friday.
