Torchlit

LadyV had been out on a boozy session in Bowness with one of her colleagues and was going to get the train back to Kendal to meet me.

I could not turn down this opportunity to see what sort of state she would be in and gleefully marched across town to greet her at the station intrigued as to what would pour off the train.

You could imagine my disappointment when her ladyship coolly disembarked, grinning from ear to ear and able to walk in a straight line without concentrating - which is more than can be said for the group of chaps who staggered their way to the platform, armed with fish n chips.

We had a little wander back through town and after a quick drink at The Tap, took in some of the Torchlight activities going on. It didn’t seem to be like some of the processions of old, but there was plenty of lanterns and a couple of light displays which made for a nice atmosphere. Adjacent to Abbot Hall park a big crowd (by Kendal standards) had gathered to watch as a band played “A Town Called Malice” - a sly dig? - and a pepped up “Tainted Love”.

The really big news as far as I was concerned, was the reopening of the river path. It has been shut due to flood works for eons, and I’ve sorely missed strolling along there.

Great way to stroll into the weekend! Have a good one everybody!
