Dereliction

For the second Doors Open Day visit we returned to Madelvic House to learn more about the factory.

First we watched a presentation on the Edinburgh trams, old and new before reading a copy of the brochure with illustrations of the models that were produced. I was most impressed with the size of the establishment, see extra. More information may be seen here, thanks to the Granton History page.

Unfortunately the building has long been the target for vandalism: the office block has lost three windows and the United Wireworks office opposite has all facing windows boarded up. This notwithstanding, there are proposals to convert the factory building into one-bedroom townhouses for rent. Meanwhile the community garden to the rear is thriving, with help from volunteers.

A rather sad entry for Derelict Sunday, hosted by Marlieske.
