A Day In The Life

October

I know the calendar says October but today it actually looks and feels like it. There’s a sudden and noticeable chill, the woods are glowing yellow and leaves litter the grass. It seemed to have all happened overnight! • There’s a frost warning for tonight so the few pots of flowers we still have will be covered • Feeders have been nonstop today with chickadees, titmice, finches and nuthatches, like this one; ground feeders are busy too, mostly yellow-throated sparrows and bluejays. Honorable mentions go to squirrels and chipmunks • I packed away a few more things in the shed as we slowly wind down outdoor activities. A busy week ahead in the garden as we prep for a final roto-till • I’ve already made a big pot of chile for dinner tonight, it seemed to fit the mood of this chilly first Sunday of October, plus I’ll be checking in soon on some of the late afternoon football games • Time to put on a cat and pour a G&T :) • I hope you’ve all had lovely peaceful weekends!
