A Day In The Life

Late Bloomer

American Goldfinches are the late bloomers of the bird world. They are one of the last birds to breed and nest, typically in August. Over the past month I’ve enjoyed all the fledglings in the yard but as you can see they’re looking less like babies now and more like young adults • A frosty start this morning but the sun turned it into a beautiful fall day. We did a few errands then stopped by the river to take in the sights. Mostly gulls • I decided to take advantage of the weather and set up the heated birdbath but won’t plug it in until the end of the month or early November when nighttime temps fall below freezing • As a test I set out suet balls for the woodpeckers and nuthatches. I’ve noticed them around and hate not having it out for them. Keep your fingers crossed they won’t be raided by raccoons or possums… • Another frost advisory for tonight!
