Here's looking at you, kid

This building is an extension to our church hall and, apart from the ground and first floor rooms, it also houses a basement with collapsible tiered seating in which conferences can be hosted. The annexe was built at the same time as our Atrium, which was created by transforming the car park between the church and hall into a glass-walled café. In order to accommodate it, land was borrowed from the end of the vicarage garden to make space for a replacement car park. It was all so very exciting at the time, and over ten years later I still get a buzz from walking into the site.

While my husband was ordering our coffees I filled up the card stand with lots more condolence cards I’d made, then we went to join a good friend of ours who was there having a coffee with her sister-in-law. That’s the joy of going into the Atrium, you always seem to bump into someone nice and have a chat! Before they left I was given an order for a special card for our friend’s son, who will be 50 this month. And to think that I can remember going to visit her in hospital just after she’d given birth, as clearly as if it were yesterday. Where do the years go?
