Two Wildes

Oscar and Eduard.  Eduard Vilde (1856 (or is it 1865 - websites give both versions) - 1933) was an Estonian writer.  He was of the same generation as Oscar, though the two never met.  But in 1999 an Estonian sculptor created a fun statue suggesting the two were in earnest conversation outside the Cafe Wilde in Tartu.

When Estonia joined the EU in 2004, they presented a second copy of the statue to Ireland, which is now in Galway city.

In a day of interspersed brilliant sunshine and heavy showers, we rather fortuitously managed to stay dry whilst doing a few bits of shopping in Galway city - in the centre, then in various outlying shopping centres.
