Shaggy Mane Ink Caps

An area of grass in Elie Estate is home to many Shaggy Ink Cap fungi.

They pop through the ground like a wee chipolata sausage and then as they grow the surface of the fungus roughens and the bottom edge starts to open out and becomes rather like a black frill.
The opening up continues until the fungus resembles a parasol and finally it just collapses into a rather soggy black mass which doesn't make a very good photo.
