The oldest "New Bridge"

The original bridge between the island of Härnön and the mainland was (is still) a short bridge, rather on the edge of town at the time it was built. So when a second bridge was built, longer and more central, it was called the New Bridge, Nybron.
As I've mentioned before the latest Nybron is now getting old and urgently needs replacing. Today we on the planning committee took a preliminary decision on the new bridge, that it would be a swing bridge, like the original pictured here. The present bridge lifts up, as seen here, but returning to the original form has some advantages, is no more expensive, and would be historically interesting.
Because the balance of power in town has subtlety altered the Left party will no longer have two places on the planning committee so I shall be leaving active politics after the next meeting, so I'm glad we made a decision today about the new bridge.  I have one more meeting left so hopefully a few more decisions can be taken then, before I hand over the reins to the new committee.
