Happy 18th Birthday Blipfoto

So, Blipfoto has come of age.
 
We couldn’t miss out on celebrating this achievement and to give you a quick update on our call to arms for more volunteers to take Blipfoto forward.
 
A lot has happened in those 18 years, or 216 months, or 939 weeks, or 6574 days since Joe Tree uploaded his first post to an on-line diary where he chose just one photograph, taken on that day, to reflect on his daily experience.  While it started as one person’s journal, it was soon drawing the attention of other people who also wanted to take part.  We’re indebted to Joe that he not only came up with the idea, but also made it possible for other people to share their experiences through Blipfoto.  Such a simple concept, elegantly transformed into a website that so many enjoy.
 
Since that first post almost 6,000,000 days of your lives have been recorded by users of Blipfoto.  It is something enjoyed by 1,000s of people from all corners of the World.  We have members who stretch back to the early days of the website.  28 members have posted more than 5,000 blips (we even have some who have posted in excess of 6,000 blips).  That’s an increase of 13 from last year.  We have almost 850 active members who have been on the site for more than 10 years, up from 500 last year.  Congratulations to you all.  And as for ‘younger’ blippers, you are so important to the continuing health of the community, thank you for your contribution to Blipfoto.
 
As with any childhood, there are always some ups and downs, but Blipfoto is still a vibrant and growing community, now under the ownership of the very people that use it every day.  The team of volunteers who took over 6 years ago have made sure that Blipfoto can run on a sustainable footing, funded by member subscription, while still offering the opportunity to take part for free.  Through these recent years of community ownership, the community is indebted to all those who have found themselves able to support the site.
 
So, to our current call for help. If you haven’t read our previous Blip Central post we really hope you can find the time to check it out.  For those of you who have, we really appreciate the extremely kind comments, and if you’ve felt able to make an offer, our profound thanks.  We will be in touch with you shortly.  
 
We want to make sure that you know that it’s not too late to come forward, and we would encourage anyone still thinking about it to get in touch.
