First fruits

The new wine was officially released on Thursday, so it's had a couple of days to settle. We took a bottle with us to S and T's last night, and it was acceptable, with that characteristic banana tang of new wine. For a few years the winemakers here made quite a thing of the vin primeur, a month earlier than Beaujolais, but it never really took off other than locally as an excuse for a party, and enthusiasm has dwindled somewhat. The cooperative in Fabrezan doesn't even make it any more -- a shame, since theirs was reliably good.

This evening we went to see a play somewhere other than our usual haunt -- at the Chai in Capendu, where we haven't been for several years. It was a three-man show, Vacarme(s), about the life of a farmer, drawing on their own and their families' experience, along with interviews with many others. It was very well done, mixing pathos and humour. A very minimal set of three chairs, four standard lamps, and a pile of earth means it can be performed anywhere. There was a small and select audience and afterwards the actors came for chat and drinks in the foyer. We'll be back for more shows in this season -- they have an interesting programme and a subscription is good value at 45 euros for five shows.
