Nicky and her Nikon

Goodbye South Africa

Today was a beautiful day, hot and sunny with a temperature of 29C. Typical that on the day we leave the weather is perfect.

After a leisurely breakfast we went to our rooms to pack and then check out. My niece had arranged for a pony ride for her two year old son before we left (she is a skilled rider and until recently had her own horse) He was a little nervous so daddy had to go with him for a gentle walk around the stables.

Then it was time for our sad goodbyes. It's always sad saying goodbye to our family, but at least we know we will see them again next August.

The drive up to Johannesburg was easy with breath taking scenery as we crossed over the escarpment. The escarpment is the range of mountains that divide the high central plateau of South Africa from the low lying coastal area, as can be seen here. It is such a beautiful area but often not known by tourists who only ever visit Cape Town or go on safari.

We are now sitting in the lounge waiting to board the plane. It is home to cooler weather, and home to Xena! She has enjoyed her stay with Fi, I have been getting daily updates, videos and photos and she has had a good time.
