Through a lens darkly

Jack in the Green

Well, it was a marvellous day, all in all. Mum laid on a fabulous spread, there were lots of lovely people and the weather couldn't have been better once the early mist has burnt off. The festival took place on the West Hill in Hastings, which is a change from the usual venue of the castle. I think this worked out better as there was more room and it's free to anyone to attend, whereas the castle charges an entrance fee.

This shot was taken from my mum's front garden, as the procession went past. The green dude with the flowery crown on is the Jack. We killed him so that summer can come! You can thank me later when the weather gets nicer.

Later on in the day once the festivities were over, the excessive drinking took its toll on my mood, and almost inevitably there were drunken tearful heart-to-hearts with mum. Poor Darren had ringside seats!
