Weedon Island Preserve

Friday October 28
We had to check out of our rental property by 10 am, but our flight back to Cincinnati wasn’t until early evening, so we still had quite a bit of the day to enjoy. When I was online the other day, I came across a new (to us) preserve, Weldon Island Preserve, located a little north of St. Petersburg on the edge of Tampa Bay, so we thought that would be a good destination, since it would place us en route to Tampa airport. We first watched a video in the visitor centre which explained some of the history of the area, then went out to walk the trails. For another time, it also looks a good place to kayak. As you can see from my collage, we saw a variety of wildlife, geckos, a couple of gopher tortoises, and a raccoon with a young one, and hundreds of small tree crabs on the branches of some of the mangroves. We got to the airport in time to get something to eat before boarding, since we had skipped lunch, and it would be a bit late for eating by the time we got home.
So a wonderful week celebrating my birthday and creating happy memories!
