Sheffield Park and Garden

We stopped here for lunch and a walk on the way to a couple of nights in Brighton. We’re booked to see Bellowhead at the Brighton Dome tomorrow night so thought we’d spend more time here rather than an out and back.

Sheffield Park was past its best but still had some magnificent colours which would have been enhanced if the sun had shone. As it was the afternoon was better than the murky morning.

Bellowhead are a boisterous 11 piece folk band who play over 20 instruments and include an impressive brass section complete with a sousaphone, helicon and tuba. We saw them several times between 2004 until they disbanded in 2016.

They’ve regrouped for a tour this month following a one off reunion in 2020 to mark the 10th anniversary of their album Hedonism. One important band member will be missing. The multi instrumentalist Paul Sartin died unexpectedly and suddenly in September of this year aged only 51.

Bellowhead are a band very much to be seen live. Boisterous and full of antics on stage they are hilariously entertaining as well as consummate musicians.

You can see that one of Susan’s legs has become shorter than the other!
