Stork and Steeple

Sounds like a pub name...

Went on a jaunt to Luz, the village that was rebuilt, when the old village was submerged by the Alqueva dam twenty years ago. The steeple belongs to a replica of the old church. There were two storks clacking their beaks on a huge nest hidden behind the spire (is that what it's called?); got one of them flying away. Don't know if they are new arrivals or if they never left.

We went down the old road, and walked along a length of it that we'd kayaked over in the summer, trying to see remnants of the old village, but don't think we were in the right place.

A grey, sunless day, but no rain to speak of.

Gratefuls:
- getting our car serviced and then it passing its annual inspection, always a relief
- prayer walking, and a toastie at the pastelaria, as Morango Bar was shut; sitting with the widow of the former owner of our Land, who insisted on paying our bill, how kind!
- eating grilled whole cuttlefish in Luz, good, but a bit of a shock to see them entire on our plate, complete with the bone you put in budgie cages, and lumps of ink
