Return to Callanish

We saw some lovely colours in the sky as we went down to breakfast. This was before dawn and they soon disappeared. Ah well! We'd decided to see the north of the island today. As I drove towards Stornoway John noticed some interesting light so we decided to detour to Callanish, it's not far out of the way and we figured the visitor centre would be open and we could get a coffee too. There were some lovely crepuscular rays so we tried to get them between the stones and we got some lovely colour in the sky which is just right for the Wide on Wednesday challenge the theme of which is 'Colourful'. Many thanks for hosting Steven.

After our coffee we carried on to the lighthouse at Tiumpan Head. It's not specially attractive and I couldn't find a composition that worked. The most interesting thing (I thought) was that it's post-retirement purpose is as a kennels and cattery. We drove back to Stornaway to find somewhere for lunch. I thought we were going to be out of luck when I spotted a small 'Cafe' sign on a shop selling artwork and jewellery.

Last stop was the Port of Ness that may be best known to fans of Peter May's Hebridean books as the place where a murder has taken place. It's an interesting little harbour but there was only one boat in the water at this time of year. I've added a shot as an extra. By this time the light had gone and rain was starting so we didn't go to the Butt of Lewis and headed for home.

Thank you for all your presents on 'Calanais' a couple of days ago. It briefly got onto the top page of the populars.
