If you can't beat them...

Earthstar Fungus

Our last day in Edinburgh so while we had reasonable light and the frost had melted I got KKK to show me the Earthstars which she had found growing under the bushes in a corner of her garden.

Her app suggested they are Collared Earth Star ( Geastrum triplex ). I on the other hand have started to lean towards it being Geastrum rufescens, sometimes called Rosy Earthstar.  If anybody out there knows definitively what species it is I would be pleased to be told.

We helped KKK with a few jobs many again needing access to a car.  Then we headed home, for most of the journey we were going in and out of banks of fog, each of differing densities.

P.S.  Having looked at Clickychick's shot they are clearly Collared Earthstar.
