Cheeky ladies

A chilly day today, but dry at least. We visited the library in the morning - among several books I returned was 'The Tolpuddle Woman', by E.V.Thompson. A truly amazing book, a novelised version of the trial and deportation of six Tolpuddle farm labourers to Australia in 1834 for swearing an oath to join a union. Since the 1930s a festival has been held in Tolpuddle every July, a demonstration of solidarity with the Tolpuddle Martyrs. E.V.Thompson wrote over 40 books, many set in Cornwall or the English West Country - I brought home another one to read.

After lunch we drove down to Ellenabeich on the Isle of Seil for their Craft Fair. Because the area was the centre of the slate industry in days gone by there were a number of beautiful articles and pictures made of slate. 

My Blip today is of a couple of ladies who were raising money for the charity 'Breast Cancer Now'. The UK-wide group to which they belong is well-known for its appropriate name, the Blue Tits; they're regular cold-water wild swimmers. I didn't realise that when I asked if I could take their picture, but then they suggested to make the point that they made use of some knitted balls which were among the merchandise for sale! Cheeky ladies indeed!
