Promise fulfilled

Just over a year ago we participated in a 'Promises Auction' for church funds. One of the things Chris offered was to take two eople to RHS Harlow Carr gardens near Harrogate and have tea and a fat rascal at Betty's Cafe.

B and A bought the promise and it has taken us over a year to come up with a time to suit us both, so today it was - whatever the weather.

We amended the schedule a bit arriving at Betty's in time for morning coffee. It was so busy despite the drizzle that we had to go into the Cafe instead of the coffee shop and pay a slight premium to have waiter service instead of ordering from the counter. Posh eh!

Afterwards we braved the dampness and enjoyed the spring flowers in the gardens. There were tubs of tulips in lovely colours, Rhodedendron, fields of Fritillaria and lots of Narcissi and daffodils still blooming. Particularly nice were some beds of white ones.

This is a Fritillaria Imperialis growing in planters above tulips. In the background is the relatively new Queen Mother's Lake.

We then retired to the pub down the road for a very pleasant lunch.

Promise fulfilled!
