Dumpling

In the project that is the subject of this week’s meeting, I have inherited some complexities to resolve. There are some shenanigans with some fishponds the project intended to build, but for which the business plans and the feasibility work have vastly overestimated the budget available. It’s all quite annoying, but at least it was amusing when one of the project partners talked about dumplings, when he meant fingerlings.

The meeting finished around lunchtime which meant I could travel back to Dar es Salaam and get back to my own bed. There were more appealing Uluguru Mountains backdrops as we left Morogoro, enticing me back.

Today’s driver Sudi tuned into the music he was playing via USB, which had the album name ‘slow music’. The soundtrack included Chiquitita, Another Day in Paradise and a medley of Spice Girls hits such as Mama and Viva Forever. Sudi surprised me, but I wasn’t at all mad about any of it.

If Sunday’s road journey to Morogoro was ‘death-defying’, today’s felt like a marginal improvement at merely ‘hair-raising’. It was completed in less time, with less traffic and no hours of darkness. A rousing success in comparison.
