Sheriffmuir

Back Blip - doing a bit of a catch-up of my autumn backlog!

I am (was) due to lead a Ramblers walk in Dunblane and Sheriffmuir in a week's time, so a couple of my friends and I drove up to do the recce this morning. We started our walk at the car park behind the Cathedral and after a bit of low-level walking started to make our way up through the town and into the woodland to the south. Eventually we reached the Gathering Stone that marks one of the sites of the 1715 Battle of Sheriffmuir (see extra).

As we munched on our sandwiches we remarked on how much easier it was for us to walk through the upland terrain, with its fine new paths and boardwalks than it would have been for the combatants in the bog and heather of a Scottish November.
