A Day Worth Recording

Underextrudel

It would seem I've had it lucky with the 3D printer so far, and many owners complain about various printing problems.  However, a few days ago the printer started playing up with bits missing from the prints as if the flow of plastic wasn't good enough.

Unfortunately there are a million things that all appear as 'flow of plastic isn't good enough'.  First I dry the filament - it gradually absorbs moisture so an hour or so in the oven at 40'C is supposed to rectify that.  Then replaced the nozzle.  Then reseated the pipe between the extruder (the plastic-pushing-bit) and the nozzle, then... and so on.

This is one of the later tests where the problem is less worse, but somewhat short of a cigar.

The last fettle was to clean up the extruder and put a lighter (weight-wise) roll of filament on.  That seems to have sorted it enough for the moment - thus it seems the extruder isn't man enough to pull the filament off a full roll any more - it must have been originally.

The internet is full of fiddling-bits for these printers. I may be some time.
