Day 11 in the hospital

This is a late posting, and the extra has now been added.

We had a peaceful night, but didn’t sleep well.  Mum was conscious quite a lot during the morning and indicated that her right eye and the right side of her neck were hurting, so a nurse gave her some pain medication.  Brother and sister arrived and the four of us sat chatting for a while before Mr MacD and I decided to head home.

None of us want Mum to be alone, but it is certainly taking a toll.  We are all mentally and physically exhausted and extremely tired.  Mum is not giving up just yet.  She has been moved from the acute section of the stroke ward to the palliative care section.

After arriving home we showered and changed then met a couple of friends for lunch and a chat.  They’re both good talkers, so lunch took two hours.  It was actually good for us to sit in the sun and relax and laugh.  Afterwards we popped in briefly to wish another friend Happy Christmas.  She leaves for Australia on Sunday and her husband will follow on Christmas Day. We left with a bottle of Verve Clicquot, which a rather pleasant and unexpected surprise. We then tootled around popping cards into friends’ letterboxes.

Back home, we prepared a light supper, did our shopping list for the Farmer’s Market tomorrow, assembled the containers we needed for fish, eggs, cheese, milk, samosas for Mr MacD’s lunch and pies for our supper in the hospital tomorrow night. Then we watched The Repair Shop and Good With Wood before climbing into bed.

The main blip is a series of sky/cloud photos I managed to take during the afternoon and evening.  The extra is a photo I snapped from the bus of a giant Christmas present in a tiny park at the bottom of Khyber Pass Road.
