Stratford

The morning stared with a cooked breakfast. After all the food last night I did not think that I would be able to eat any more but a hot buffet breakfast was very tempting. And I was craving savoury, salty things rather than sweet puddings. Talking with Jason while were were eating, he said there was often pudding left for the staff post a pudding club event and, occasionally, in the morning if guests really wanted.  Supposedly, we could have asked for a pudding portion at any time during out stay. I am glad I stuck with bacon and eggs.

We spent the morning wandering along the River Avon in search of Shakespeare’s grave (which we didn’t find because there was a church service in progress) before walking back to the train station and getting a coffee in a nice coffee shop, Esquire’s Coffee, opposite the railway. Stratford-upon-Avon station is quite a quaint traditional station which made for a lovely send off.  While we were waiting for the train to depart, a group of (mainly) American tourists boarded and there was a great deal of excitement to see if one of their group - who had returned to the hotel to pick up left-behind headphones - would make it before we left. He did.

We changed at Leamington Spa for a train journey that got us home about 5:30pm and we were ready to eat again.
