Angel

The house was roasting overnight.  All the windows were open and it felt like the house was full of moths and beasties – it was.  We all managed some sleep in the heat, and all slept late and woke up tired, probably just due to the heat.

We had no plans for today, apart from just keeping cool.  I finished my Sally Rooney book and started Chronicle of  Death Foretold, which was in the holiday house.  We are all wishing we had air conditioning and a pool.  Not usually requisites when you holiday in the UK.  It has been thirty nine degrees all day.  We spotted a brave toad hopping across the burnt out grass in the garden, presumably looking for some shade and dampness.

After lunch TTT and I  headed to Cawston to check out the church with the angels.  We then wandered through the village and enjoyed an ice cream.  Next stop was Salle and then Heydon, a privately owned village.  Everything was closed in Heydon, so we wandered into the big house park and were relieved that there were no cows wandering around.

We then headed home via a supermarket.  I had a wee wander before and after tea in the slightly cooler air.  A horse fly bit me and drew blood.

This is one of the carved wooden angels in Cawston Parish Church.  The extra is a sign spotted in Heydon.
