LIFE IN A BUCKET

This is Issa Jabor, 70 years. The trade union I work for, Norwegian Union of Municipal and General Workers has provided him with a cistern through Norwegian People's Aid.

He lives in Sousia, a Palestinian village that Israeli army gives many home-demolition orders to make way for new Israeli settlements. The settlers have taken control over the Palestinian water resources and prevent the Palestinians to dig new wells.

Norwegian People's Aid support the Palestinian Union Agriculture Workers Committees to build cisterns instead. But even the cisterns are threatened by demolition from the Israeli Army.

Mr Jabor has got his life a little bit easier after the cistern. He now have water for this young olive trees for several months during the year. But still he has to buy water to an very expensive price when the cistern get empty. It rains just 150 mm per year in this area.

His proudly drinks from the bucket before he watered the olive trees in front of us.
