Logs

There was a power failure sometime in the night last night and OilMan got disoriented and had trouble finding his way to the bathroom. He crashed around until he woke me up and I directed him with my iPhone flashlight app. I don't know how he managed once he found himself in the bathroom, but we'll not go there....

We were all a bit tired when we met for coffee this morning. We had a date for lunch at a cafe in Tacoma at 11:30 to meet friends of Lady Findhorn and HL, so we opted to take our coffee with us.

It took more than my iPhone flashlight app to direct OilMan to the cafe. A confusing maze caused by road construction, one way streets and unexpected cul de sacs had us going in frustrating circles. In the end, it took two telephone calls. (No help was forthcoming from any of OilMan's passengers because the coffee had taken its toll during the two hour drive and we were all focused on the urgency of our situation.) The potholed, cobbled streets didn't help....

The second phone call finally got us there and we brushed past the waiting friends in a mad dash for the loo! It rained quite hard last night but despite the damp weather, we elected to sit outside on the deck with a view of what turned out to be a pulp mill. While the waiter dumped water out of the chairs and sluiced off the table, we introduced ourselves properly and settled down to our Eggs Benedict. Did I mention that it is Mothers' Day?

On the drive to Corvallis (was it only a week ago?) I commented on the denuded hillsides which had been clearcut by the timber companies. The massive pile of logs behind the pulp mill is a graphic illustration of what happens to them after they are cut....
