Shooting against the sun

I enjoyed this morning's photo challenge.  Blue sky and quite strong winter sun, not the photographic conditions I prefer.  This image is of a rather abandoned terrace house in a near by town.  I am struct by the fact that the house has PVC double glazed windows, so it has been lived in more recently.  My challenge was shooting against the sun, you can see by the shadows the direction of the sun.  I positioned the disc of the sun behind a lamppost which is on the lefthand side just off screen and pressed the shutter.  Previously I had metered on a dark area of the screen on the right.  It seemed to work!  The other image attached show the same scene but from the other direction.
